Arlen Specter to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) is expected to decide who will succeed Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) as head of the panel.

(CNSNews.com) - The Ohio Republican Party officially filed challenges Friday to approximately 35,000 registrants in 65 counties where voter fraud is believed to have taken place.The state's Republican Party is pre-challenging these registrants' right to vote in the 2004 presidential election because mail to the new registrants was returned as undeliverable by U.S. Postal Service authorities.

(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. military is investigating whether a wounded, unarmed Iraqi insurgent was shot in the head at close range by a U.S. Marine on Saturday.On Friday, snipers and insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades fired upon U.S. Marines from a mosque and an adjacent building. U.S. marines returned fire and killed 10 militants and wounded five.

(CNSNews.com) - A female charity worker who was kidnapped in Iraq last month, is now believed to be dead.Margaret Hassan, director of CARE, a humanitarian group that was providing aid to Iraqis, was kidnapped on Oct. 19, just a day before CARE workers decided to leave Iraq because it was unsafe."Mrs. Hassan was an extraordinary woman who dedicated her life to the poor and disadvantaged in Iraq, particularly the children. The whole of CARE is mourning," a CARE spokeswoman said in a written statement.

Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) on Thursday refuted a report that he had warned President Bush against choosing future Supreme Court nominees who would seek to overturn abortion laws or would be too conservative to be confirmed.Specter, who supports abortion, was reelected to a fifth Senate term. He is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and is expected to succeed Sen. Orrin Hatch as chair of the committee next year. That would give him authority to schedule hearings, call votes and make the process of judicial nominations easy or hard.
