Most people I know just roll their eyes when Michelle Obama comes out with a new part of her anti-obesity program, mainly because we are Americans and we don't need someone telling us what to do. But then, most people I know understand right from wrong and will pay our own way, thank you very much, and don't look to government to solve our problems.
But another headline touting another grand plan to get kids moving and eating healthy caught my eye and I thought, with all the hate-mongering and victimization happening in her Sweet Home Chicago and cities nationwide, she could lead as a First Lady ought to, and start healing the nation by teaching the female youth in this country how to behave as ladies.
Women can and should lead the way on improving the treatment of women and in turn, the treatment of everyone.
She has mentioned that being in the White House is kind of like being in prison. So, I ask, what better use of time could there be for a First Lady, who happens to be in the sphere of influence of every young female, regardless of color, than to teach them how to refuse to be labeled a "bitch" or a "ho" and how twerking is unacceptable?
Just once, I'd like to see Michelle Obama sit next to someone like Snooki on the couch at The View and have her say, "Sweetie, you don't need to degrade yourself like that. Twerking is not sexy, dear, it's porn."
I can't even watch rap videos. The way the men treat the women in rap videos is disgusting, and a lot could be done for the better if Michelle Obama just cared enough to speak up about how men should treat women, and how women should comport themselves, actually.
Of course, who cares what some white woman from nowhere thinks? Hey, I'm just sitting back here watching the world sink into the toilet while people with massive power abuse it, and I just know it doesn't have to be this way.
Women should be treated with respect by men, and I'm lucky to know some good men who do just that. In fact, I know some men who, if a young girl twerked in front of them, would probably try to cover up the view, because they would be embarrassed for her.
But, you can't be treated with respect if you do not expect it, and that is the lesson Mrs. Obama should be spreading to America's daughters: Self Respect.
It's a funny thing, when I was younger, I never gave it much thought, but now, maybe it's because I have teenagers and I see how little respect some youngsters have for themselves, that just teaching kids to have respect for themselves does a world of good, and it would help Mrs. O with her anti-obesity campaign, too.
See, because once you have respect for yourself, you carry it with you and you, in turn, teach people how to treat you, because you treat yourself well.
It's really just very simple. Anyone can do it. And there is an added bonus of not having to be told what to eat and how to exercise because it's all in there, waiting for you to flip the switch.
The more you think about it, the more you wonder why Mrs. O isn't doing this. It seems obvious that it is what is needed. In fact, what it would eventually do is create an environment where civility is the prevailing mood and goodness is expected.
It's not like she has any qualms about telling people how to live their lives, so it really is a stumper why America's First Lady wouldn't want to bring out the best in America's daughters.
Well, there is a side-effect to teaching people to respect and, therefore, govern themselves. When people trust, respect and govern themselves, there is no need for her obese government to tell them what to do, and monitor their energy and check their fuel usage and plan their meals and so on.
So, perhaps I have found the reason why Mrs. Obama doesn't teach the youth of today to respect themselves. Perhaps, it is because keeping them degraded and sexually promiscuous and ruled by emotion keeps them dependent on government.
It's a damn shame.
