This NOAA satellite image taken Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 01:45 PM EDT shows Tropical Storm Isaac is now located about 165 miles south of San Juan, Puerto Rico. This system has maximum sustained winds at 40 mph and continues strengthening as it moves west-northwestward at 15 mph. It produces heavy rains and strong winds across Puerto Rico and parts of the Dominican Republic. To the north, a front brings more rain and thunderstorms to the Carolinas and northern Florida. Further north, a trough of low pressure pushes a front through the Plains, kicking up showers and thunderstorms from the Great Lakes through the Central Plains. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. (AP PHOTO/WEATHER UNDERGROUND)
