“Now I’m here with a lot of fans in the NFL cheering me on – and I can hear them all.”
The above is quote from the new advertisement featuring Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman. Coleman is the first legally deaf offensive player to take to the field in the NFL.
The battery commercial briefly tells the tale of some of the obstacles Coleman, who has been deaf since age 3, has overcome.
Coleman rushed for over 1,200 yards and scored 16 touchdowns in his final two years at UCLA, but still went undrafted before making the practice squad in Seattle in 2012.
According to Fox Sports, Coleman has learned to read the lips of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to pick up on audible plays.
You don’t have to read his lips to hear Coleman’s inspiring story in the advertisement.
