3 arrested in fake bomb found at Phoenix airport
PHOENIX (AP) — Three African refugees were arrested after what police described as a fake bomb was found in one of their carry-on bags at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said Tuesday that police aren't ruling out the possibility of terrorism and that investigators don't yet know the motive behind the incident.
Martos says that 51-year-old Luwiza Daman of Ethiopia tried to get the item through airport security on Friday.
He described the item as an organic substance inside a container, with a cellphone taped to the outside. He was unable to describe the container.
Daman and two men described as acquaintances have been arrested and booked into Maricopa County jail on a charge of having a hoax device and conspiracy to obtain a hoax device.
