6 of 7 in East Texas sex ring case get time served
TYLER, Texas (AP) — Six people have been sentenced to time served after agreeing to plead guilty to participating in an East Texas sex ring that used children as performers.
Three of the six had been sentenced previously to life in prison, but their convictions were overturned.
State District Judge Jack Steen sentenced them Thursday in Tyler after they pleaded guilty to third-degree felony injury to a child and waived their rights to trial and appeal.
Patrick "Booger Red" Kelly, Shauntel Mayo and Jamie Pittman had previously been sentenced to life in prison — Kelly for aggravated sexual assault of a child, and Mayo and Pittman for organized criminal activity. Their convictions were overturned. Only Dennis Pittman, who's appealing his life sentence, didn't reach a deal.
