SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A bit actor who appeared in the first "Austin Powers" movie has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the violent 1990 gang rape of a Southern California woman.
Orange County District Attorney spokeswoman Farrah Emami said Friday that 40-year-old Joseph Son was found guilty of one felony count of torture on Aug. 25.
In 1997's "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," Son wore a bowler hat and played one of Dr. Evil's henchmen, named Random Task.
Authorities say Son and a co-defendant abducted the then-19-year-old victim as she was walking her dog by her Huntington Beach apartment on Christmas Eve.
In the back of the car, Son repeatedly raped and sodomized the woman while pistol-whipping her and threatening to kill her. She suffered severe injuries.
Son was later linked to the crime through DNA testing.
