AP Interview: George W. Bush still supports troops
DALLAS (AP) — Former President George W. Bush says his desire to remain out of the spotlight after leaving office has left him worried that U.S. troops didn't know he still cared.
Bush, who sent troops to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, says, "I was a little concerned that our veterans don't think that I still respect them and care for them a lot."
Bush is hosting events for wounded military members to make sure troops know they still have his support.
Bush is hosting the Warrior Open golf tournament in suburban Dallas next week. The event will feature members of the U.S. Armed Forces wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the spring, Bush joined wounded military members in the Warrior 100 — a 62-mile mountain bike ride in West Texas.
