AP: NJ man sues over double murder conviction
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A man whose double murder conviction was overturned after he served more than 20 years in prison has sued New Jersey's attorney general and county prosecutors.
Paul Kamienski was one of three people convicted in the 1983 murders of a couple at the Jersey Shore in what prosecutors characterized as a drug deal that went bad.
A federal appeals court ruled the evidence at Kamienski's trial wasn't enough to warrant a guilty verdict. Kamienski was released from prison in 2009.
His lawsuit was filed Thursday. It claims malicious and wrongful prosecution and seeks monetary damages.
Spokesmen for the attorney general's office and Ocean County prosecutor's office declined to comment Friday.
