PHOENIX (AP) — Former astronaut Mark Kelly is planning his life post-NASA, keeping an open mind about running for political office while traveling the country for speaking engagements.
Kelly told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he will be paid to speak at various events starting in the next few months.
He will talk about his career in the Navy and at NASA, and challenges he and wife Rep. Gabrielle Giffords faced since she was shot in the head in a Jan. 8 shooting that killed six people and wounded 12 others.
Asked whether he was positioning himself for a career in politics, Kelly says "that's not the plan right now" but he hasn't ruled it out.
Kelly adds: "I've learned over a lot of years that you should never rule anything out."
