DEXTER, Maine (AP) — The Maine medical examiner's office says a man who shot his wife and two children before taking his own life killed them all with shotgun blasts.

A spokeswoman said Wednesday that autopsies indicate Steven Lake's wife and daughter were shot at least twice in the head and chest. Lake and his son each were shot once in the head.

State police say Lake killed his wife, Amy Lake, and their two children, 12-year-old Monica and 13-year-old Coty, in what's described as a "despicable case of domestic violence."

Steven Lake was under a court order to stay away from the family after holding them at gunpoint last year. He wasn't permitted to have a gun. Police are trying to determine how he got the gun.
