(CNSNews.com) - With less than one month until the Iowa caucuses, Republican presidential hopeful Gary Bauer is campaigning hard for the conservative vote as he defended traditional values, Sunday, and chastised liberal judges for changing the American landscape over the past three decades.
"Americans are losing the battle for our culture," said the former head of the Family Research Council on Fox News Sunday.
"There has been about a 30 year period, now, where people wake up in the morning, and they open up the newspaper and they hear descriptions of a country they don't recognize anymore," added Bauer.
Bauer, who also served as an undersecretary on President Ronald Reagan's cabinet, blamed monumental changes in American life, such as the removal of school prayer and widely available abortion, on judges who have abused the courts to impose their own views on the public.
"Americans would have never voted to take prayer out of the school. They would have never voted for abortion-on-demand," said Bauer alluding to two landmark Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion and outlawed school prayer.
Bauer pointed out that as Americans continue to vote against legalizing same-sex marriage, federal judges continue to try to legalize homosexual marriage.
"[Americans] will never vote for same-sex marriage. In fact every time they've had a chance to deal with that, whether it's conservative Alaska or liberal Hawaii, they've voted it down," said Bauer referring to recent referendums in those states that turned down proposals to legalize homosexual marriage.
"But, we still have these un-elected judges that have a social agenda - as sure as I've got an agenda - and they try to force it on us. And, they use the power of the courts to do it, so I'm going to continue to speak out against it," said Bauer.
