PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Comics have been a reliable pipeline for big-screen films and this summer's "Planet of the Apes" prequel enforces those ties with an online-only 10-page comic book prelude detailing the primates uprising.

Published by BOOM! Studios starting Wednesday, the comic details events leading up the story told in the 20th Century Fox film "Rise of the Planet Apes" being released Aug. 5. New pages will be added weekly until Aug. 3.

Written by Daryl Gregory and illustrated by Damian Couceiro and Tony Parker, the story focuses on two apes taken into captivity and used for experiments. Readers can find out what happens by going to www.apescomics.com .

Apes proved popular for BOOM!, which launched a new series based on "Planet of the Apes" this year and has sold out.
