Boy pleads guilty in NYC shopping-cart shove case
NEW YORK (AP) — A 12-year-old has admitted a role in dropping a shopping cart that fell onto a woman's head from a fourth-floor walkway at a New York City shopping center.
The boy pleaded guilty Friday in Family Court to assault. He was charged as a juvenile, so his punishment could entail up to 18 months in a juvenile facility. A judge is due to decide Dec. 6.
The boy told the judge he held the shopping cart over a railing at an East Harlem shopping plaza Oct. 30. He said he knew people were below and could have gotten hurt.
The cart plummeted onto a woman shopping for Halloween candy. A city lawyer says she remains in serious condition.
Another 12-year-old charged in the incident is due back in court next week.
