Bus Explosions in Southwest China Kill Two

The explosions in China's southwestern Yunnan province come just weeks before the start of the Olympic Games on Aug. 8.
Beijing (AP) - Explosions on two public buses killed two people and wounded 14 others Monday in China's southwestern Yunnan province, a state news agency reported.

The first explosion occurred at 7:10 a.m. at a bus stop in downtown Kunming city and the second at 8:05 a.m. at a nearby intersection, the official Xinhua News Agency said. A destroyed bus was seen in front of the Panjiawan bus stop, Xinhua said, and broken glass was scattered in front.

No further information was available. The Kunming police refused to comment, saying the information had been released in the Xinhua reports.

The explosions come just weeks before the start of the Olympic Games on Aug. 8 in Beijing. The government has boosted security around the country to try to ensure a worry-free games.
