DETROIT (AP) — Chrysler says it earned $212 million in the third quarter as car and truck sales grew 24 percent.
It was the company's second profitable quarter this year, and a sign that its turnaround is taking hold after a 2009 trip through bankruptcy protection. In the third quarter of last year, Chrysler lost $84 million.
The company says its profit was driven by increased demand for its new or revamped Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles.
Revenue for the quarter was up 19 percent to $13.1 billion.
For the first three quarters of the year, Chrysler has lost $42 million. But that's mainly due to a $551 million accounting charge for refinancing its government debt in the second quarter.
