Conservatives Plan Pro-Troops, Pro-War Rally

July 7, 2008 - 8:23 PM

(CNSNews.com) - Conservative activists will converge on Washington, D.C., Sept. 22-23 to show their support for the war in Iraq and the soldiers fighting it.

The "Support the Troops and their Mission Weekend" is being sponsored by the conservative message board FreeRepublic.com, conservative demonstrators from Protest Warrior and Military Families Voice of Victory.

Demonstrators will "show their support for our nation's military personnel, honor their families and demonstrate their resolve that the missions of their loved ones fighting terrorism and protecting liberty in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world be completed with honor and victory," according to the event website.

Attendees will spend Friday visiting elected officials in their offices on Capitol Hill. They will also demonstrate outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the military hospital where wounded soldiers receive care.

Members of FreeRepublic, called "Freepers," routinely demonstrate outside Walter Reed to counter members of the anti-war group CODE PINK, which has come under fire from conservatives for what one Freeper called "tormenting our wounded soldiers."

The "Support the Troops and their Mission Weekend" will wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 23 with a rally at the base of the Washington Monument.

The weekend events begin one day after anti-war protesters conclude a 17-day protest, also at the base of the Washington Monument, called "Camp Democracy."
