Cop: NY man shot 3 relatives before setting fire
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) — A police investigator says an upstate New York man accused of killing three relatives told him he shot them before setting fire to their house and knew from a young age "he could kill somebody and not even think about it."
Local media report state police investigator John Ogden testified Friday during a hearing that ended with a judge ruling the case against 23-year-old Matthew Slocum will go to a grand jury.
Ogden questioned Slocum after he was arrested in New Hampshire on July 13, the day his mother, stepfather and stepbrother were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads in White Creek, 35 miles northeast of Albany.
Slocum has pleaded not guilty to murder and arson charges. His lawyer says the statement to Ogden shouldn't be allowed into evidence.
