Couple accused of abusing teen appears in court
DALLAS, Ga. (AP) — A court hearing is under way for a Georgia couple accused of confining their teenage son to a bedroom for years with little food.
Paul and Sheila Comer are in Paulding County Magistrate Court for a bond hearing. The Comers were arrested last month and accused of abusing 18-year-old Mitch Comer. He weighed 87 pounds when he was found in Los Angeles.
The Comers, dressed in orange and white striped jail suits, were seated at a table with their lawyers.
The emaciated teen told authorities he had suffered years of abuse after being taken out of school in the eighth grade. He said his stepfather, Paul Comer, put him on a bus to Los Angeles on his 18th birthday.
The Comers face charges of false imprisonment and cruelty to children.
