Del. AG Biden recuses himself from campaign probe
DOVER, Del. (AP) — Attorney general Beau Biden is recusing himself from an investigation of illegal campaign contributions to candidates for state office in Delaware.
A spokesman said Friday that Biden will appoint an independent prosecutor from outside his office to handle any investigation related to businessman Christopher Tigani. He said Biden's recusing himself because he has received campaign contributions from Tigani, not because of indications that his father's 2008 presidential campaign received illegal campaign contributions.
Tigani pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to using his former alcoholic beverage distributorship to bundle hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal contributions to state and federal candidates. Court records and campaign finance reports suggest that the scheme may have involved Vice President Joe Biden's 2008 presidential campaign.
Federal prosecutors said they're sharing information with state authorities.
