Democrat Hysterics? 'The Middle Class Will Be History'
(CNSNews.com) - In an end-of-January fundraising letter, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is urging its "friends" to "stand up for President Obama and America's middle class."
If the DSCC can raise $245,000 by Jan. 31, the letter says, "We can re-elect President Obama and the middle class will be revitalized." But, the letter warns, if the fundraising goal is not met -- "Republicans will seize control of the white House and Senate, and the middle class will be history."
The letter, signed by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), says Democrats are facing "gale-force headwinds in November" because "corporations and special interests" are spending money to "skew our elections."
Democrats expect former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee, and the party has been railing against him for months. The Democratic National Committee issues dozens of daily "rapid response" bulletins slamming Romney's wealth, his comments on the campaign trail, and his stand on the issues.
On Monday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who heads the Democratic National Committee, was in Florida to talk about veterans and military issues -- and "how the Democratic Party can best serve those who served our country."
President and Mrs. Obama have been reaching for the military vote since Obama took office three years ago.
Wasserman Schultz told a town hall meeting in Tampa on Monday that Obama has been a man of his word when it comes to military personnel -- ending the war in Iraq (she said), winding down the war in Afghanistan, making a commitment to end homelessness for veterans, and supporting a G.I. bill for returning veterans.
"That's what patriotism is all about -- making sure people can make it in America," Wasserman Schultz. "And that is in pretty dramatic contrast to the priorities of the Republican field."
