(CNSNews.com) -During a Labor Day speech in Detroit, Vice President Joe Biden was critical of Republicans for making people question the federal tax system.

“This new Republican Party has everybody asking questions like, ‘Are unions too strong?’” Biden told the crowd gathered at the former Tigers Stadium.

“No, no think about this. Think about what you read and see in the paper you hear a question like, ‘Are corporations overtaxed?’ What the hell are we talking about?'”

According to the Tax Foundation, America currently has a 39.1 marginal corporate income tax rate, the third highest in the world, exceeded only by Chad and the United Arab Emirates.

Biden used the address to criticize companies who move their headquarters out of the country to avoid high taxes and to call for an increase in the minimum wage.

Flanked onstage by UAW President Dennis Williams and Teamsters president James P. Hoffa, Biden told the audience: “Labor has had my back my entire career and it’s good to be back with the people who, as that old saying goes, brung me to the dance.”
