Ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh dies in Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities in Chicago say the cause of death for former Weezer bass player Mikey Welsh is undetermined pending toxicology tests.
Mikey Welsh's body was found in a Chicago hotel Saturday. An autopsy was performed Sunday.
Chicago police say there's nothing to indicate foul play.
The 40-year-old Welsh of Burlington, Vt., performed with Weezer from 1998 to 2001. The band's website says he left after suffering a nervous breakdown.
He eventually established himself in a second career as a painter.
Weezer posted a message on its website, saying Welsh's time with the band was "vital, essential, wild, and amazing."
Welsh planned to attend Weezer's Sunday performance at Riot Fest in Chicago.
