Giffords back in Tucson for holiday family visit
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has returned to her hometown of Tucson for a brief, private visit with her family and friends over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Giffords' staff says the Arizona congresswoman arrived Friday evening from Houston with her husband, retired astronaut and Navy Capt. Mark Kelly.
They say Giffords doesn't have any scheduled public appearances or events in Tucson and won't give any interviews during the visit.
Giffords still is recovering from a head wound suffered Jan. 8 when a gunman shot her and 18 others at a political event in northwest Tucson. Six people died in the rampage.
She was discharged from a Houston rehab hospital in June and came to Tucson for a two-day Father's Day visit with her family.
