(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) directly challenged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for not passing a Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

“What the Senate is doing is deflecting the real issue, and the real issue is to cut the unnecessary spending in Washington, period,” she said at a press conference with other Republican congresswomen about the Continuing Resolution (CR) passed by the House to keep the government running.

“That’s why we are here – we’re challenging him. Pass something, Harry. Let’s see what you got so that we can respond.”

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said the “reckless spending” in Congress is “economic child abuse.”

“We are in a fight to protect our children’s future,” she said.

“You know what is so amazing – the spending. The reckless spending that takes place in the town is basically economic child abuse, because what it is doing is capping our children’s future and trading it to the nations that hold our debt.”
