Group ranks C, 2 trains worst in NYC subway system
NEW YORK (AP) — New York's C train has earned the unwelcome distinction of being the worst subway line in the city for the third year in a row.
The NYPIRG (NY'-purg) Straphangers Campaign commuter advocacy group disparaged the line in its 14th annual State of the Subways report. The 2 train tied the C for the lowest ranking in the nation's largest subway system.
The C runs between Brooklyn and upper Manhattan. The 2 ferries commuters between Brooklyn College and the Bronx.
The Straphangers rank the C poorly on scheduled service and delays caused by mechanical breakdowns. The crowded 2 is the weakest in seat availability during rush hours.
The J/Z train ranks the best. It runs between lower Manhattan and Queens.
The New York City Transit agency said Wednesday it appreciates the Straphangers' "fun and unique" take on subway service.
