Ind. GOP Rep. Burton says he'll seek 16th term

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) โ€” Indiana Republican Rep. Dan Burton says he plans to run for a 16th House term next year after narrowly surviving tough Republican primary battles in his past two campaigns.

Burton has not formally declared his candidacy, but he told WIBC-FM for a story posted Monday on its website that he feels young and vigorous and is ready for a re-election fight.

Burton won with 30 percent of the vote in a crowded 2010 Republican primary in which rivals argued it was time for him to go.

The 72-year-old Burton first won election from Indiana's 5th District in 1982. The district would remain heavily Republican under a redistricting plan the Legislature approved last month. However it would lose some rural counties that helped Burton win the 2008 and 2010 primaries.
