Iowa Lottery to give away $$$ from jackpot mystery
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Lottery will try again to give away the state's share of a big jackpot after a mysterious man who ended up with the winning ticket wouldn't explain how he got it.
The agency said Friday it was planning a $2 million promotion to give away cash prizes with the state's share of the $14.3 million Hot Lotto jackpot and of a $77 million Powerball jackpot that went unclaimed in Georgia.
Investigators are looking into whether any crimes were committed related to the attempt by New York attorney Crawford Shaw to claim the Hot Lotto jackpot for a trust.
Shaw signed the winning ticket, which was turned in two hours before the prize would've expired. But he refused to explain how he got it, and the lottery wouldn't pay.
