It'll Be Tea Party vs. GOP in NY Governor's Race

Albany, N.Y (AP) - A tea party Republican is trying to ride a wave of voter anger as he challenges the GOP leaders' choice in the New York governor's race.

The state is holding primary elections Tuesday. A poll over the weekend showed millionaire developer Carl Paladino had drawn even with former Congressman Rick Lazio.

Paladino is a political novice and Lazio the choice of leaders of the Republican and Conservative parties.

Democratic voters will pare down a tight field in the race for their party's nomination for attorney general. The same position catapulted Eliot Spitzer and now Andrew Cuomo toward the governor's office.

The Democratic primary also pits Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel, battered by ethics charges, against Adam Clayton Powell IV, son of a legendary Harlem lawmaker.
