J.K. Rowling Gives Britain’s Labour Party $1.8 Million Donation

Rowling's first ever donation to Labour gives a big boost to struggling Prime Minister Gordon Brown as the party begins its annual conference Saturday.
She says vulnerable families will fare much better under Labour than under the Conservatives.
Rowling is one of the world's richest and most successful authors, but she says Conservative tax proposals would make it harder for single parents to work their way out of poverty as she did when she began writing her novels in cafes in Edinburgh, Scotland.
