PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A federal judge has denied bail for a reputed underboss in Philadelphia's La Cosa Nostra.

Alleged underboss Joseph "Mousie" Massimino appeared for a bail hearing in federal court Friday. His lawyers argued for bail, saying the 61-year-old has strong family ties to the area and has never failed to show up at a court hearing.

But prosecutors argued he should remain in detention, citing a record that includes dozens of arrests. A federal magistrate said the lengthy arrest record concerned him and ordered Massimino kept in detention.

Massimino and alleged mob boss Joseph Ligambi face racketeering and gambling charges detailed in a federal indictment unsealed this week. The indictment also names 11 others.

Massimino, Ligambi and several others have pleaded not guilty.
