LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas high school senior has won a new car for having good grades and no unexcused absences.

Clark County school officials say 18-year-old Kenneth Gonzalez won a Honda Fit worth about $17,500 through a raffle among the eligible students.

The car was awarded on the last day of school. To be eligible, students needed at least a 3.7 GPA and no unexcused misses from class.

Six seniors were also awarded about $8,000 in scholarships.

School officials say the prizes are one way to keep kids from slacking off during their final semester.
