MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The NFL lockout has reached three months, and the threat of canceled training camps has increased.
That could mean a big hit to communities that host teams for a couple weeks each summer.
Tourism officials say training camp makes a $5 million impact on the Mankato region when the Vikings practice at Minnesota State University. Cortland State University of New York says the Jets' camp brings a $5.8 million economic boost to their upstate area.
For the 15 teams that train away from their year-round facilities, there's also a sense of local pride in places like Georgetown, Ky., Spartanburg, S.C., and Anderson, Ind., with the exposure that comes from hosting an NFL training camp.
Camps typically begin in late July.
