Man killed by Nevada deputy near own burial plot
December 8, 2011
GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada man was only a few feet away from his own burial plot and tombstone when he pointed a loaded gun at a deputy and was fatally shot.
Authorities say 77-year-old David Pendleton died Wednesday at the Gardnerville Cemetery after summoning police.
Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey says Pendleton's wife died recently and is buried in a family plot. Next to the plot was a headstone with David Pendleton's name and date of birth already engraved.
Halsey says Pendleton had threatened to use weapons against officers and civilians in the past.
