(CNSNews.com) – During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopolous” on Sunday, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Syrian and Iranian leaders are behaving “more rationally” than “House Tea Party Republicans.”

“It, to me, it is mind blowing this week that we see leaders of our most, biggest global adversaries, Iran, Syria, to your point, acting more rationally than the House Tea Party Republicans,” said Granholm.

President Barack Obama announced last week that he spoke to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the phone in an effort to reach agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, the first time since 1979 that the heads of Iran and the U.S. have had direct communications. Meanwhile, in an interview with Italy's RAI News 24 TV, Syrian President Bashar Assad, has agreed to abide by the U.N. resolution calling for Syria’s chemical weapons to be dismantled and destroyed, CBS News reported.

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol called Granholm on her comparison, asking if she really thought that “the Iranian Republican Guard is more rational than the House Republicans.”

“Suddenly this great approval of the Foreign Minister of Iran and Syria, I think you guys really want to rethink before you start praising a guy who sat here and just lied to George about whether they have a nuclear weapons program or not. That is not like oh gee they're so wonderful—” Kristol said, referring to Stephanopolous’ interview with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.

“No, the point is that people are willing to sit down and be rational for people who we have been adverse to for long periods of time. And you've got the House Republicans who will not act rationally,” Granholm said.
