PEARL CITY, Hawaii (AP) — Officials say two students at an Oahu middle school suffered minor injuries when a gun was fired on campus.

Police say a student brought a handgun to Highlands Intermediate School in Pearl City on Monday.

Fire department Capt. Earle Kealoha says the student aimed the gun at another student who batted it away. He says the gun fired in the process, grazing the student who pushed it away in the stomach.

Kealoha says there was no penetrating wound.

A passing student was hit in the hand, leaving two fingers bruised and one finger with minor injuries.

A Department of Education spokeswoman says the passing student's hand was hit by building fragments.

She says school remains open.
