Nationwide Safe Shooting Event Planned for Father's Day

(CNSNews.com) - In response to the so-called "Million Mom March" on Mother's Day, fathers and their families are gathering at shooting ranges nationwide on Father's Day to simultaneously discharge 50 million rounds of ammunition, demonstrating their commitment to the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership, say organizers of the event.
"The straw that broke the camel's back had to be the Million Mom March," said Jeff Head, the principal organizer of this Sunday's shooting event, which has been dubbed the "50 Million Round March."
The event will be the first of several this year planned for holidays such as the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, said Head in a telephone interview from his home in Emmett, Idaho.
The "50 Million Round March," held only at ranges with "range monitors" in place to ensure safe gun handling, will be followed by a grassroots letter writing campaign to Congress and the White House, insisting that they respect the Constitutional rights of the estimated 80 million American legal gun owners.
"The efforts to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights to self defense have been escalating in the recent months," said Head. "A veritable chorus from political pundits and the mainstream media are trying to convince us that it would be 'best for children' to further restrict firearm use and sales to honest, law-abiding citizens," added the father of five.
Head hopes the safely discharged 50 million rounds in the space of two hours on Sunday will get the attention of lawmakers. "A volley heard round the world, that kind of thing," said Head. "Maybe they'll hear us in Washington."
