LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A judge has ordered a 57-year-old New Hampshire man to be held without bail on charges that he was among three teens who killed a 15-year-old boy in Massachusetts nearly 42 years ago.
Michael Ferreira, of Salem, N.H., was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Friday on a charge of first-degree murder.
Ferreira was charged in the death of John Joseph McCabe, whose body was found in a vacant lot in Lowell in September 1969.
Prosecutors allege McCabe was kidnapped after leaving a dance and assaulted by three older teens who wanted to teach him a lesson for flirting with a girl. He was left to die of asphyxiation as he struggled to free himself.
Ferreira's attorneys did not immediately return calls for comment after business hours.
