Obama to discuss deficit reduction with lawmakers

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will meet separately this week with Senate Democrats and Republicans to discuss ways to bring down the nation's deficit.

The Senate Democratic caucus will come to the White House Wednesday, while Republicans will meet with Obama Thursday. The White House says the president will also meet with bipartisan House members in the coming weeks.

The meetings come as Washington shifts its focus back toward domestic issues following the killing of Osama bin Laden. Both parties say bringing down the deficit is a top priority, though they differ greatly in their plans for doing so.
