Washington (AP) - President Barack Obama is calling for new initiatives to help absent fathers re-engage with their children.
The president on Monday outlined plans to fund local projects that help train men for jobs, prevent domestic violence and take other steps to encourage healthy and loving families.
Another program will use courts to help find jobs for men just leaving prison. The goal is to have them paying child support and reconnecting with their children as soon as possible.
A day after Father's Day, Obama said that being a dad is not just an obligation. He said it's also a privilege and a blessing.
