WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will make his case for extending payroll tax cuts when he speaks from the White House Monday afternoon.
The White House added the president's statement to the schedule just about 30 minutes before Obama was due to speak.
Obama wants Congress to extend and expand payroll tax cuts that will expire at the end of the year. The White House says taxes on the average family would increase by $1,000 if the cuts are not extended.
Some Republican lawmakers have agreed on the need to extend the cuts. But the parties are split on how to pay for an extension.
