Occupy D.C. to Protest 'Dastardly Politicians' at Conservative Gathering in Washington
(CNSNews.com) - The Occupy D.C. movement -- what's left of it, after police routed its rat-infested McPherson Square encampment last weekend -- plans to protest a "who's who of dastardly politicians" at the a major conservative gathering later this week.
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is holding its annual gathering Feb. 9-11 at a Washington hotel. Republican luminaries expected to speak include presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum and former presidential hopefuls Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain. Sarah Palin will deliver the keynote address.
In a call to protest on its Web site, Occupy D.C. calls CPAC a "gathering of bigots, media mouthpieces, corrupt politicians, and their 1 percent elite puppet masters."
"CPAC will parade and attempt to perpetuate the radical right wing’s imperialist ideologies with keynote speakers, movies and banquets dedicated to pursuing its racist, sexist, patriarchal and exploitative agenda," Occupy D.C. said.
"Spectacles will include imperialist topics such as 'From Fidel to Chavez: How Do We Stop the Resurgence of Socialism in Latin America?', 'Is the Arab Spring Good or Bad for America?' and frequent bloviation on 'American exceptionalism.' Openly racist discourses will be given on 'The Failure of Multiculturalism: How the pursuit of diversity is weakening the American Identity' and 'Islamic Law in America: How the Obama Justice Department Is Selling Us Out.'"
Occupy D.C. said its mission is to "Occupy CPAC. Create as much non-violent resistance as possible, and make this a conference the attendees will never forget."
The protestors expect union members to swell their ranks, especially when Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker speaks on Friday. Walker became a target for union fury last year, when -- in an attempt to balance the state budget - he proposed limits on state employees' collective bargaining and asked those employees to pay more for their pension and health care benefits.
