LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — A judge has ordered a mental evaluation of a former high school teacher charged with 16 counts of sexual battery involving male students in southwest Ohio.

The court on Tuesday approved 33-year-old Stacy Schuler's plea of not guilty by reason of insanity with a note on the order saying that attorneys also intend to maintain her initial not guilty plea.

Prosecutor David Fornshell declined comment. Messages were left for Schuler's defense team.

Schuler resigned as health and gym teacher at Mason High School in February after her arrest earlier this year. She was charged with sexual battery counts allegedly involving several teenage boys and three counts of providing alcohol to minors.

A new date will be set for the trial that was scheduled to start Aug. 8.
