Parker backs off comments that Spurs are finished
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Spurs guard Tony Parker is backing off earlier comments to French media that San Antonio realistically has no more chances to win another championship.
Parker on Tuesday blamed reporters in his home country after being quoted in May as saying the Spurs can "no longer say" they're playing for a fifth title in the Tim Duncan era. The comments came a few weeks after the 61-win Spurs were upset in the first round by eighth-seeded Memphis.
Parker said Tuesday that "newspapers need stories" yet wouldn't exactly clarify what he told the French media. The 29-year-old instead said he didn't have to justify anything and reiterated his commitment to the Spurs.
Barring a trade, Parker isn't going anywhere. He begins a new four-year, $50 million extension next season.
