Police: ex-Md. student reported rampage threat

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Police at the University of Maryland say a former student who worked at the police department tipped them off to a current student's online threats of a shooting rampage.

Capt. Marc Limansky says the threats of a campus massacre were reported Saturday night by a former police aide. Detectives worked through the night to trace the messages and on Sunday morning arrested 19-year-old Alexander Song, a sophomore honors student who police believe was responsible for the posts.

Police say Song, of Fulton, Md., posted online threats, saying he would "kill enough people to make it to national news." Limansky says the threats were posted on two websites, Reddit.com and Omegle.com.

Song was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
