Police investigating Oahu theft of baby's ashes
HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu police are investigating the theft of a ceramic urn holding the ashes of an infant.
Leimomi Kahele says she left her home on Oahu's North Shore for about 25 minutes Wednesday and returned to find it ransacked.
While walking through the home with officers, Kahele noticed a ceramic Precious Moments urn was missing. She says it holds the ashes of her son who was born in 2004 and lived for five days. She's still taking inventory Thursday of what's gone, including a DVD player, clothes, saved rent money and the lone present under her Christmas tree.
She says her 4-year-old daughter's princess pillowcase is missing and she suspects it was used to haul away the stolen items.
KHON-TV first reported the theft Wednesday. Kahele hopes the urn is returned.
