NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a 16-year-old girl killed in an unsolved boardwalk shooting in New York City probably wasn't the intended target.
Tysha Jones was among five victims shot Thursday by two gunmen during a sweltering afternoon at Brighton Beach in Brooklyn.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Friday that Jones was part of a group of young people sitting on the boardwalk when the men walked up from the beach and began shooting. Four people were wounded, including a seaside café patron struck by a stray bullet.
Browne said police suspect the men meant to shoot at someone in Jones' group — but not her.
The shooting stemmed from a melee on the beach in which bottles and an umbrella were used as weapons. There were no arrests on Friday.
