Police: Tire likely blew out on DC-to-NY tour bus
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — State police suspect a tire blew out on a tour bus moments before it veered off a highway and overturned in western New York, killing two passengers and seriously injuring three others.
Police spokesman Mark O'Donnell says the bus was carrying Indian nationals from Washington, D.C., to Niagara Falls. The driver lost control Sunday and ran off Interstate 390 into woods near Avoca, 55 miles south of Rochester, injuring 35 people.
Ambulances and helicopters took seven of the most seriously victims to a hospital in Rochester, and three are in guarded condition there.
O'Donnell says Monday that investigators believe "there was a flat tire just prior to the accident" but the cause of the wreck remains under scrutiny. Authorities were set to release more information Monday afternoon.
