WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Roger Federer has advanced to the second round at Wimbledon by beating Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-2.
The six-time Wimbledon champion is looking to equal Pete Sampras' seven titles at the All England Club.
Federer was playing at the All England Club on Tuesday for the first time since losing in the quarterfinals last year. The 16-time Grand Slam champion won five straight titles from 2003-07, but lost in the final to Rafael Nadal in 2008. He won his sixth Wimbledon title in 2009.
