Santorum: Romney Goes From 'Rabid Pro-Choice' Gov. to Pro-Life Pres. Candidate

Tampa (CNSNews.com)- Rick Santorum, the GOP runner up in the presidential race says Mitt Romney has consistently been a pro-life candidate for president, even though he once described his former primary rival as being “elected as a rabid pro-choice governor.”

“He’s run as a pro-life candidate, he selected a solidly pro-life running mate and that affirmation for me was important,” Santorum told CNSNews.com Wednesday in Tampa.

On January 16th 2012, Santorum told CNSNews.com that Romney, as a candidate for governor of Massachusetts, was “elected as a rabid pro-choice governor”.

“To say he governed as a pro-life governor, well he didn’t get elected as a pro-life governor,” Santorum told CNSNews.com ahead of the South Carolina primary. “He got elected as a rabid, pro-choice governor and may or may not have governed as a conservative.”

But Santorum now says the Republican presidential nominee has been a consistent pro-life candidate for president and believes he can be trusted.

“Governor Romney has not flinched from his position, he said he would run as a pro-life candidate and he has run as a pro-life candidate.”
